In the context of contributing to EC's digitalisation initiatives and adopting an approach that would guide and support the Greek (mainly, but not exclusively) ecosystem through its AI adoption efforts, ahedd (Attica Hub for the Economy of Data and Devices) was founded in 2017 as a Digital Innovation Hub. The hub became operational towards the end of 2019 and is a partnership between research organisations and innovative SMEs with expertise in offering AI, Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions across multiple domains, as well as consulting and training to businesses to maximise the generated value of the solutions.

ahedd's operation in the years 2020-2022 was mainly supported by industrial service provision contracts, Demokritos' resources and secondarily by EC funding. ahedd was one of the 7 i-Spaces in Europe to be awarded the prestigious Platinum recognition from the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) in 2023, the highest level of excellence in data innovation, which highlighted its contribution to the dynamic field of data-driven innovation and Artificial Intelligence technologies. In 2024, ahedd became a spin-off to grow its market outreach and ensure competitiveness and long-term sustainability.
