Delivered as an invited talk for the "Friday's AI Talks" series within the MSc in Artificial Intelligence, a joint postgraduate program by the University of Piraeus, NCSR "Demokritos", Dr. Denia Kanellopoulou shared empirical insights.
Insights show that 67% of businesses remain stuck at the "Awareness" stage, enthusiastic but lacking a concrete strategy. To transition from experimentation to actual value, organizations can utilize the APSS framework.
Escaping the pilot trap requires an explicit governance decision from leadership, not a better machine learning model. While simple task automation offers quick efficiency, it is easily replicated by competitors within 12 to 24 months. Long-term competitive advantage belongs to firms that leverage their proprietary data, domain expertise to fundamentally transform their business models. The talk concluded with an engaging Q&A session with the master's students, faculty. A key question raised was whether strict European regulations, such as the EU AI Act, drive innovation or act as a barrier.
Dr. Kanellopoulou noted that while businesses often complain that heavy regulation slows progress, Europe’s culture demands high data privacy, protection. In this environment, strict frameworks build the public trust necessary for widespread tool adoption.
