ΑΙ4ΙΑ at the European AI Board sub-group meeting on AI innovation in Brussels
On 4 March 2026, Dr. Denia Kanellopoulou represented IIT at the European AI Board AI Innovation Ecosystem sub-group meeting in Brussels, as Greece's national representative. The sub-group acts as a bridge between the European AI Office and individual Member States, focusing on how to keep European AI competitive and effectively fund programs like the AI, Data and Robotics Partnership and GenAI4EU. The ultimate goal is to help both major industries and startups successfully integrate AI into their workflows.
The meeting covered the European Commission's policy approach built on the AI Act, the AI Continent Action Plan and the Apply AI Strategy, the forthcoming JRC report on AI adoption in EU public administrations, and the creation of a dedicated AI toolbox for public administrations. A highlight of the meeting was the announcement of European AI Innovation Month, launching 14 October and concluding with the Apply AI Summit on 17 November.
Dr. Kanellopoulou's contributions focused on the suggestions for the interplay of the European AI Innovation initiatives, such as aligning the taxonomies designed for the announced AI Observatory with those of the AI-on-Demand, building on the expertise and experience available and enabling collaboration and also exploiting the AI-on-Demand as a marketplace for AI developments made in Europe, in connection with national initiatives.
AI4IA is a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on the scientific study of AI adoption dynamics, digital innovation ecosystem governance, organisational transformation methodologies, and the design of evidence-based policy instruments. The team is committed to foster cross-fertilisation activities between EU AI Innovation initiatives and supports this goal across research, implementation and policy levels.
